How Weapon Switch Works in Path of Exile 2
Learn how Path of Exile 2 swaps your weapons and passive tree for you. Assign skills to set I or II. Only the equipped set gives its bonuses.
In Path of Exile 2, you can have two weapon sets: I and II.
Two weapon sets
Set I is usually your main weapon. That is the setup you fight with most of the time.
Set II is usually the support set. You keep something useful there and only pull it out when you need it.

Both sets stay equipped, but only one is active. If set I is in your hands, you only get set I’s weapon stats.
Set II does nothing until you switch to it.
By default you can press X to swap weapons. Almost nobody plays that way.
Assign skills to a weapon set
Open a skill in the skill gem panel and expand it. You will see checkboxes for weapon set I and weapon set II.
Tick only I and that skill always swaps you to set I first.
Tick only II and that skill always swaps you to set II first.
Tick both and the skill works on either set.
Let’s use a ranged caster as the example.
Check only I. Now when you press Arc
, it only uses weapon set I.

Do the same for Frost Bomb
and check only II. Now when you press Frost Bomb
, it only uses weapon set II

Weapon-set points on the tree
From your total passive points, you can assign up to 24 to set I and the same 24 again to set II. You earn those points from campaign quests.

In the example below, 4 points are assigned as weapon-set points.
Yellow paths apply to both sets. The red box is set I. The green box is set II.
The red box is extra spell damage on set I. That boosts Arc
, your main damage skill.
The green box is extra debuff effect on set II. That makes Frost Bomb
’s debuff stronger.

That is how we save 4 points while Arc
deals more damage and Frost Bomb
applies a stronger debuff.
Weapon switch is one of the strongest tools in Path of Exile 2. This was a small example of how to use it.
